Spotlight on Stage: Gibraltar International Drama Festival 2026 Unveiled
There’s something special about theatre in Gibraltar. Perhaps it’s the intimacy of the stage, the passion of local performers, or the way the audience becomes part of the story. This March, that magic returns as Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS), on behalf of the Ministry of Culture Gibraltar, presents the highly anticipated Gibraltar International Drama Festival 2026.
Running from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th March, the festival once again takes centre stage at the much-loved Ince’s Hall Theatre, a venue steeped in history and perfectly suited to five nights of compelling storytelling.

Now in its 69th edition, the festival has long been a cornerstone of Gibraltar’s cultural identity, bringing together a vibrant mix of youth groups, seasoned performers, and visiting companies. It’s not just a competition, it’s a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the enduring power of live performance.
This year’s programme promises a rich tapestry of productions, but one group in particular returns with momentum and expectation. Theatre Makers, recent standout performers on the local stage are set to feature prominently once again, presenting Zero For The Young Dudes! on opening night and Goodbye, Charles later in the week.
Their inclusion adds an extra layer of intrigue to the festival. Having built a strong reputation in recent years, including major award wins and recognition for technical excellence and overall performance, the group arrives as one of the most exciting companies to watch.
Opening night sets the tone with a lively mix, including What The Ladybird Heard by GAMPA Infants and A Human Write by BestSide Drama Group, before Theatre Makers bring their distinctive edge to the stage. As the week unfolds, audiences can expect an eclectic lineup, from the poetic Me, Myself And Iambs by Dramatis Personae to the emotionally charged A Hundred Words For Snow by GAMPA, and the striking Bleeding Heart (La Puñala) from No Frills Theatre Company.
Midweek performances give way to an exciting penultimate evening featuring visiting talent from the UK, with Medway Little Theatre Company presenting Jumped and Grave Matters, while GAMPA Children inject youthful energy with Bright Young Things.
All eyes then turn to Friday night’s Gala, the festival’s showpiece event. The two top-performing plays return to the stage, culminating in the announcement of the overall winner. It’s a night filled with anticipation, celebration, and well-earned recognition.
Awards span a range of categories, from acting and directing to overall production, and for groups like Theatre Makers, the stakes are familiar. With a proven track record and a growing reputation, they are once again expected to be firmly in contention when the final curtain falls.
What makes the Gibraltar International Drama Festival truly stand out is its role in nurturing talent. Supported by the Government, participating groups receive assistance to bring their productions to life—ensuring that creativity continues to thrive across the community.
For audiences, it’s a chance to experience theatre up close: raw, authentic, and often deeply moving. For performers, it’s an opportunity to shine under the spotlight and be part of something bigger.
With tickets already on sale and excitement building, the festival is set to once again draw theatre lovers from across Gibraltar and beyond. And with groups like Theatre Makers returning to the stage, this year’s edition promises not just great performances—but moments that will linger long after the final applause.
Because in Gibraltar, theatre isn’t just performed, it’s felt.
