Leadership, Lessons and Real Talk at the GFSB Executive Series

There are plenty of business events that promise insight. Fewer actually deliver something you can take away and use the next day. The GFSB Executive Series is quickly building a reputation for doing exactly that.

Held in Gibraltar and organised by the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses, this latest session in the Leadership Journey series brought together experienced voices from the top of their industries for an open and honest conversation about what it really takes to lead.

At the centre of the discussion were Mike Balfour, Chairman of The Infinity Group, and Pete Yeoman, Chair of Vistage Gibraltar. This was not a polished keynote or a scripted presentation. It felt more like sitting in on a conversation that most people never get access to. The kind that usually happens behind closed doors.

The focus was leadership in the real world. Not the textbook version, but the kind shaped by tough decisions, uncertainty and responsibility. The speakers shared moments from their own journeys where things did not go to plan, where pressure was high and where decisions had to be made without having all the answers.

What stood out was the honesty. There was no pretending that leadership is easy. Instead, the discussion touched on resilience, clarity of vision and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. It was a reminder that behind every successful business is a series of difficult choices that are rarely seen from the outside.

Events like this matter in Gibraltar. The business community on the Rock is close knit, and opportunities to hear directly from experienced leaders are not always easy to come by. Bringing that level of insight into one room creates real value, especially for entrepreneurs and business owners who are navigating their own growth.

There was also a strong sense of connection in the room. People were not just there to listen. They were there to learn, to reflect and to take something back into their own businesses. Conversations continued long after the session ended, which is usually a sign that something meaningful has taken place.

The Leadership Journey series is doing something important. It is creating space for real conversations about business, leadership and growth without the noise or the buzzwords. Just experience, honesty and lessons that actually apply.
